I've got a question...

Why would Pearl put such a shitty sounding video on thir site? Their trying to sell the "sound" of their drums...so why not get a better mix? The video camera mic audio is an insult. It's not that hard to set up a pair of mics and sync the audio to video later. 12 year olds can do that now. Sheesh!

It's the first time I see/hear Mangini. And I don't want to completely judge the guy by this clip...but I just wonder what is he trying to do in this solo?

This sounds like raw rock soloing chops, but maybe he's doing more complicated stuff than I perceive...(stick in the mouth?)

Yeah I like how Thomas play on his album "Mediator", I will post some track if you want, you will be surprised...
Also I must admit that when I know the person, my opinion can to change, otherwise when I hear all these incredible drummers, I just hear some noise like in some big factory...
Just my opinion, no offense to everyone who could be fans of one of these drummers, I have a lot of respect for all the incredible work done.
And as drummer I'm really nothing compare to them.

But as for Thomas is a sweet cat, it means a lot for me.

Mike Mangini = Muscle, not Musical.

BUT - I do have some tracks he played on with James Labrie and Nuno Bettencourt/Extreme that are leaning towards the musical side... so I think my conclusion is that I much prefer him in a band setting, where he is forced to be somewhat musical - not a solo drum setting where he is forcing himself to be purely technical. Like I said, he sure is good at what he does!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Coulcn't agree more Rodge. I can understand a 14 year old kid loving what Mangini is doing, but this stuff is just that, adolescent.

Billy Cobham did this stuff thirty years ago but musically and MUCH more physical and violent, more BALLS. I can listen a BC solo even now and even though he goes for it, it's not as half assed as Mangini's solo.

Mike obviously digs himself.
